Don’t worry, we have a solution for everything: simply add a “gallery”-style header or pelmet and that’s it.
And what fabric should you choose for this?
You can choose the same fabric but with more body, or opt for a heavier fabric.
Bear in mind that, due to natural fading from the sun, it will be difficult to find a fabric in the exact shade of your curtains. So we recommend choosing a darker colour, never a lighter one.
Stripes make a real statement
Vertical stripes are a classic choice for curtains because they’re elegant, decorative, never go out of fashion and, above all, add a lot of height to a room. But if you don’t want the curtain to be too much of a statement piece, you can choose a fabric with fine stripes.
For hanging curtains: hidden rails, visible poles or tracks?
If you decide on a visible pole, these are easy to install, decorative, and available in many materials and finishes. What’s more, you can update them simply by changing the finials and/or brackets… and you have a new pole!
If you’d rather hide the pole with a gallery or pelmet, it’s best to integrate it into the ceiling. You’ll find galleries and pelmets in wood, aluminium and countless finishes, giving a more contemporary look.
If you choose a track, you won’t have any trouble hiding it, since the curtain heading itself covers it.
Whenever you can, take them up to the ceiling… and be generous with the length
Always, always, always install them from the ceiling whenever possible. Your window will undoubtedly look taller.
As for length, you have three options: the first, trailing 5 to 10 cm on the floor (depending on the overall size of the curtain). The second, reaching all the way to the floor. And the third, not quite reaching the floor, but with just 2 or 3 millimetres to spare — no more. It should look as though it almost touches the floor…
Do you love linen but worry about how to care for it?
You’re right to worry — linen is beautiful but requires more careful upkeep. But big problems call for big solutions. You can choose a linen-polyester or linen-viscose blend, and problem solved. Now you can have your linen curtain without the drawbacks.
